Well this weekend has been productive. We’ve already found out how to put our own audio into custom Rock Band 2 DLC (it was painfully simple to do), so we’re getting closer and closer to full customs being ready for the Wii!

So here’s another nice video of a full band (online even) playing Enter Sandman, a track ripped from Rock Band 1. You can’t even export this for the PS3/360, which makes it extra-special

Anyway, my current little side-project’s goal is to get custom songs working on Rock Band 2 (for Wii). Why? Because I love Rock Band 2. It’s a fantastic game, and since playing it I can’t stand to ever go back to Guitar Hero as much as I may like many of its songs. So the solution is obvious: hack Guitar Hero songs to be played in Rock Band 2!

Well, it’s my 18th birthday in… 2 hours. I hadn’t really thought much about it, and when my parents asked if there was anything I wanted… An iPod Touch just came to me. It’s a cool device with all its games, apps, and in my opinion has a higher homebrew development appeal than a PSP, the DS (which I have done some work on), and maybe even Wii. Of course they said no.

So I figure I’ll just buy myself one. But wait, I don’t have a cell phone either. With university coming up in the fall, I really should get around to getting one. Two birds and one stone later, I decide to get an iPhone.

What happens when I receive a free USB-to-MIDI cable from Red Octane? I use it to control my Guitar Hero: World Tour drums to automagically play Rock Band 2 songs of course!

Writing a drum bot just seemed natural once I had the cable, not that I have any intentions of using it to cheat online or anything (or even release it; don’t ask). It was just a fun little experiment that was surprisingly easy to do.

Supersonic Wii: Winter Edition was released only yesterday morning, and is already at 1210 downloads and counting (from the official site, the Homebrew Browser, and miscellaneous scene news sites). The feedback has been incredibly positive, so thanks to everyone for making this such a sucessful launch!
